Clear is kind

Being clear is one of the kindest acts a person can make to another. Not being gentle with a message. Not embellishing or surrounding an idea with flowery adornments. Not omitting topics in hopes the person will identify their absence.

People too often think "softening" or obfuscating a tough message is the kinder approach. But they undervalue how stressful and disorienting a lack of clarity can be. They also fail to simulate how it will feel AFTER the initial shock or surprise of a message when people typically appreciate their new clarity.

There's a saying in dating where "if you think they like you, they do, and if you're not sure, they don't." Don't leave people unsure.

If you want to be kind, be clear.
